Realizing the importance of co – curricular activities in developing the child in totality emphasis is laid upon such creative activities. For bringing the talent hidden in each child, they are put in different houses namely Rose House, Lotus House, Jasmine House and Sun Flower House, where they participate in various competitions, which is a regular feature.

State Level Vocational Competitions were organized by the Vocational Department in which the students participated enthusiastically and came up with novel and unique presentations and won prizes at different levels.

National Service Scheme (NSS)

A preparation of the Students for the service of the Nation As NSS unit has been started in 2001 in Govt. Model Senior Secondary School, Sector 10, Chandigarh, every two years session of class XI and XII students have been enlightens themselves with the true spirit of the NS motto, i.e. ME NOT BUT YOU

Means the individual’s emotions, aspirations and needs are not above the society or the other individuals. And it needs the instinct of sacrifice for others and serving the humanity in every aspect of life for a healthy, beautiful and good society.Apart from the orientation of good qualities in their minds, students undertake different activities in the school campus, surrounding areas and in the adopted village Khuda Ali Sher as follows: (a) Cleanliness of school campus. (b) Tree – Plantation and weedicide. (c) Organize rallies regarding AIDS, Pulse Polio, Environment protection etc. and regarding social evils as dowry, female foeticide, drug abuse and for the awareness of the literacy, blood donation etc.

The most significant feature of the NSS unit of this school that Mrs. Indra Beniwal, Principal of the school has been whole heartedly giving her dynamic leadership and able guidance to the NSS students. She always encourages the NSS volunteers to serve the nation. It is her motivation that the whole teaching faculty is being always involved in social causes especially in reference to NSS activities. Especially, Dr. Baltej Singh, Vice Principal, Mrs. Madhurama, Mr. Savinder Singh Lecturer in English and Physics respectively (Both are members of Advisory Committee of NSS), Mr. Varinder Kumar, Lecturer Maths and Mr. Rajuinder Kumar, Arts Master help students a lot to organize one day and 10 days special camps.

What is Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan?

Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan is a clear time frame for universal elementary education, a response to the demand for quality basic education all over the country. It is an attempt to provide human capabilities to all the children through provision of community owned quality education in a mission mode. It is also considered an effort at effectively involving the Panchayat Raj, Constitution, School Management committees, Village and Urban slum level education committees, parents Teachers Associations. Moreover Teachers Association and other grass root level structures in the management of elementary schools. It is a partnership between the Central, State and Local Government and an opportunity for States to develop their own vision of elementary education.

Aims and Objectives of Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan

Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan is to provide useful me and relevant elementary education for all children in que age group of 6 to 14 by 2010. There is another goal to bridge Social, regional and gender gaps, with the active participation of community in the management of Schools. Main objective include completion of primary schooling by 2007 and children should complete their elementary schooling by 2010. There should be focus on elementary education od satisfactory quality with emphasis on education for life. So, these are all the aims and objectives of Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan and we will hope that aims will improve our education system.
